Where the Heart Is

The cultists all follow behind their leader as she wanders toward an abandoned building–a very old warehouse that is crumbling at the seams. Many of the windows are boarded up and the door has a large hole in it. Ravens observe the procession from their perches high above.

MARINO: "Thankfully, our Venerable Star was able to forsee where Ms. Difonia would go next."

The cultists file into the building one by one until finally, they reach a part of the building that's consumed by a soft glow.

MARINO: "Here we are."

The cultists congregate around their leader as they try to make heads or tails of what they're looking at.

CULTIST 2: "Wh–"

Cultist 2's hands fly to his face.

CULTIST 2: "What is that!?"

Before the cultists is a pulsating light. If not for its ragged, uneven edges it would be circular. Bits and pieces fly off of it like embers from flames and its surface looks like broken glass.

MARINO: "A Pocket."

That's a wrap for chapter one! A huge thank you to everyone who's joined me for this first chapter (and those of you who plan on sticking around for more)! It's gonna be a very long road from here and I have so much exciting stuff planned.

That being said: WTHI will be going on hiatus until February 20th (EDIT: the hiatus has been extended to March 5th. Thank you for your patience!). I've been out of a page buffer for more than a month which means that I've been overdoing it a bit to get pages out on time, and I'd really rather not get burnt out if I can help it. Taking this little hiatus will also give me some more time to iron out my page-making process to hopefully avoid running out of buffer pages in the future! There are several other things I would like to get done during the hiatus:

  1. Get the cast page up and running now that I've introduced three of the main characters!
  2. Write transcripts for each page I've got up so far
  3. Edit text sizes for previous pages. I've been monkeying around with text sizes this whole time and I think I've finally found a size that works fairly well (correct me if I'm wrong on this, though, hahaha)
  4. Set up a Ko-fi

Again, thank you all for the support so far! I hope you've enjoyed this first chapter as much as I've enjoyed writing and drawing it :) !! If you like what I'm doing, it would mean a lot if you told a friend or two since word of mouth is my only form of advertisement.
