Where the Heart Is

Lani runs a hand through her hair with a thoughtful frown, still sitting in the tall grass.

LANI (THINKING): I was falling for a while. I must've blacked out along the way.

Her hand slips down to her forehead.

LANI (THINKING): But before that, there was the Courier.

Her eyes squeeze shut.

LANI (THINKING): And those... things.

Lani's eyes open tearfully, one of which is covered by the Courier's film reel tendrils which are snaking out from above. She sits among a pile of corpses belonging to the cultists and buries her face in her knees.

LANI (THINKING): Everyone died back there except for me.

Lani is small among the vastness of the field around her.

LANI (THINKING): Why... did the Courier let me leave and no one else? Is any of this even real?

Face still buried in her knees, Lani's hands have made their way to the top of her head. She sits up abruptly at the sound of a familiar voice.

ÍSJA: Would it kill you to be a little less stubborn for once?

um actually lani everyone died except ☝️! you, ísja, and num.
